The Nurturer

The Nurturer generally puts the team and their needs first. Their team is loyal to them and appreciates that they can relax, knowing their goals will always be reasonable and inside of their comfort zones. The team knows they can count on their leader to roll-up their sleeves to help out. The team also knows if they fail to meet their goal they can rely on their leader to have their back.

The Nurturer and their team may feel more comfortable, but if they challenge their teams and help them grow beyond their comfort zones they may see stronger results. In addition, the company's growth and achievement may benefit greatly by challenging comfort zones more.

Many Nurturer type leaders value their role as protector and supporter for their teams.  You can still honor these values while helping your team push beyond their comfort zone.  Set the results for the goals in 3 tiers - the 1st target can fall in the comfortable zone, the 2nd target range is for the crazy goal (or stretch goal), and the third somewhere in the middle. Hold your team accountable and support their growth by having regular check ins and ask questions on challenges coming up and ideas they may have to develop them.
